The Midwest Boarding School Association is a cohort of prestigious boarding schools located in the Midwest region of the United States. Cranbrook Schools, Culver Academies, Lake Forest Academy, Wayland Academy, and Western Reserve Academy work together to communicate the opportunities available at our various institutions. It is our mission to assist students and families in discovering the value and accessibility of a boarding school education and further assisting in the discovery of which institution best meets their needs and interests.
Cranbrook Schools
Founded as an educational and cultural center in 1922 in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Cranbrook is poised at the intersection of education, art, and science. Engaged in design thinking practices for over a century, we offer a college prep experience that goes beyond the classroom and is both timeless and timely— one that creates independent thinkers who value their relationships and their education.
Utilizing our world-class museums and our center for collections and research, Cranbrook students thrive in an experience more like a small university than a typical college preparatory school. They graduate from Cranbrook with the drive and the capacity to make a difference in the complex world around them.
Culver Academies
Culver Academies is a values-based, mission-driven, vision-inspired institution that offers a co-educational, residential experience beyond that of the typical boarding school for students in grades 9-12. At Culver, we believe that academic excellence is more than rote memorization — it goes beyond knowledge of a subject and can’t be contained by a single source.
Lake Forest Academy
Lake Forest Academy is a rigorous college prep school 30 miles north of Chicago. LFA has a diverse and inclusive community of 450 boarding and day students from 19 states and 40 countries and territories. Through a culture of participation, both in and out of the classroom, students develop essential skills to become leaders and global citizens.
Wayland Academy
Wayland Academy is an independant, coeducational college-preparatory school for boarding and day students in grades 9-12. Located in Beaver Dam, WI, students gather from around the world to form a vibrant community of dreamers and doers. We are much more than just a high school: we’re the perfect blend of global culture, creativity, athleticism, and intellectual rigor.
Western Reserve Academy
Founded in 1826 as a preparatory school for Western Reserve College, Western Reserve Academy is an independent coeducational boarding and day school, grades nine through post graduate. Western Reserve Academy is ranked number one best college prep and boarding school in Ohio and is recognized as one of the top boarding schools in the country. Our innovative college-preparatory curriculum features programs of distinction that prepare our
